The Global BBC iPlayer is a video-on-demand subscription service that provides over 2000 hours of British TV programming to users on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
This app offers both classic and contemporary British television, specifically tailored for Australian viewers. Subscribers will be able to access a selection of programs across 13 different genres including: news specials and documentaries; entertainment; drama; comedy; science and nature; family and kids; music and culture; and lifestyle.
Programmes that can be accessed include The Graham Norton Show, Spooks (MI-5), Live at the Apollo, Gavin and Stacey, Fawlty Towers, Panorama, Top Gear, Only Fools and Horses, Little Robots, Justin’s House, and many more.
Hours of new programming are regularly added to the service along with collections curated from the BBC’s archive, including classic Doctor Who and documentaries from the Natural World and Panorama series.
Earlier this year, Global BBC iPlayer also broadcast the Grand National and the Virgin London Marathon, in addition to The Xchanging Boat Race. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations were also available on Global BBC iPlayer in June.
Designed to be intuitive and easy-to-use, the app allows subscribers to stream or download shows for offline viewing. The interface enables users to build a personal library of shows – suitable for a car trip with the kids or a long-haul overseas trip.
