Free Video-on-Demand Service From Samsung

Following the launch of its free 3D Video-On-Demand (VOD) service in Korea earlier this year, Samsung Electronics has announced that it will extend its free 3D VOD service to Australia.

The service will be available on selected 2011 Samsung Smart TVs – existing and new owners of Samsung Smart TVs will be able to access the 3D VOD content at no additional cost by downloading the ‘Explore 3D’ application available on Samsung Apps.

During its initial stages at launch, approximately 30 3D clips will be made available from June. Samsung expects to increase the free 3D VOD content clips to 100 by the end of 2011.

As a start, the 3D content on offer will include movie trailers, music videos, children’s classics, as well as lifestyle videos and documentaries. Children’s classics on offer include Pinocchio, The Ugly Duckling, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, Puss in Boots. Lifestyle videos include Mercedes Benz Classic Collection, Takeoff-Macau, The Enchanted Hill: Inside Hearst Castle, plus documentaries such asGrand Canyon Adventure, Dinosaurs of Patagonia, Dinosaurs Alive, Wild Ocean, Mummies, Ultimate Wave Tahiti, Ultimate Gs, Legends of Flight, will be made available through the service.

As part of Samsung’s collaboration with Dreamworks, the service will feature exclusive 3D movie trailers from How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek 4, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Crisis II as well as select music videos.
