Fire Hazard With HP/Compaq Battery Packs

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued a recall for certain lithium-Ion rechargeable battery packs used with HP and Compaq brand notebook computers.

The model numbers affected are 6510b, 6515b. 6710b, 6710s, 6715b, 6715s & 6720s. To identify if your battery pack is affected by the recall please visit the HP program web site at http://bpr.hpordercenter.com/hbpr/.

There is a risk that in rare cases these Lithium-Ion batteries can overheat posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers, according to the commission.

The produced was sold nationally by Hewlett-Packard. The battery packs should be removed from notebook computers and replaced with new battery packs. Consumers will be able to continue using their notebook computers by plugging in the AC adaptor to power the notebook via mains power supply until the battery pack is replaced.
