Family-friendly YouTube Kids now available in Australia

YouTube Kids, Google's family-friendly video app, is now available in Australia and New Zealand after an initial US launch in February this year. In addition to a bigger, brighter interface designed for "little thumbs", YouTube Kids exposes a kid-friendly collection of content, encompassing entertainment and education.

Local content including Play School, Jemima's Big Adventure, and Giggle and Hoot is highlighted alongside international programming such as Thomas & Friends and National Geographic Kids. Videos are still ad-supported, but Google says all advertising is put through a strict review process to ensure it is age appropriate.

Parents have the option to set a timer that limits the amount of time YouTube Kids can be used, and can also disable search entirely to enforce a more controlled viewing experience.

YouTube Kids is available as a free download on both iOS and Android.
