According to reports in the Chinese Daily, China’s Ministry of Health, is currently employing a group of psychologists to draw up a manual on internet addiction – with the notion that internet addiction is similar to compulsive gambling or alcohol addiction.

Currently over 253 million Chinese people are online users – with the number set to increase in the next few years. Of those users Chinese officials predict a phenomenal ten percent are addicted to the internet.

Recent research by internet media company InterActiveCorp also revealed that 42 per cent of Chinese youngsters polled felt “addicted” to the web, compared to 18 per cent in the US.
