CES: Fujifilm Goes Back to the Future

By Branko Miletic

So what do you do when you want a DSLR that looks like the camera your dad owned and have a wad of cash to spend? You call Fujifilm of course. No, it’s not a typo and yes, it does read Fujifilm.

Although not normally associated with top shelf snappers, the company has rolled out its new mirrorless interchangeable lens Fujifilm X-Pro 1. It’s a great camera, with the choice of 18mm, 35mm, and 60mm macro XF Leica lenses, 16-megapixel CMOS, stereo audio and the only camera in its class to sport an optical viewfinder. The X-Pro is a breath of fresh air in what has become a crowded field of also-ran camera clones in the market.

It has been compared to the Canon 5D Mark II, which means it will appeal to wedding photographers and similar.  Pricewise, rumour has it that the camera will retail at the sub $2,000 mark, but that is still to be confirmed.
