If you’ve been looking at buying an iPhone and have settled on the hugely impressive Samsung Omnia, you might want to hold off for the moment.

If you’ve been looking at buying an iPhone and have settled on the hugely impressive Samsung Omnia, you might want to hold off for the moment.

Asus, makers of computers like the Eee PC, are looking set to release a device very similar to the Samsung Omnia. An image this weekend has popped up on XDA-Developer forums showing a currently unseen Asus device that sports a very similar look to the Samsung phone launching here soon. From the looks of it, we can see a camera on the front telling us it’ll likely be capable of 3G video calls and it comes with a trackball as well as the touchscreen for people who want a different way of using their phone.

Trackball usage means it’ll be a shoe-in for people looking to move from their recent Blackberry phones and if the 5 megapixel camera on the back is any indication, this might be one of the best entries to take on the Samsung Omnia head on.

We’ll have more on this as it develops.
