Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed stats showing 43% of Australians now have broadband in their home – more than double the amount that have dial up. This sis the first time more Aussies have had broadband than dial up.

The stats were drawn from a survey conducted during 2006-2007. Previously during the 2004-2005 period only 16 % of Australians had broadband.

The report cites the reduction in cost and more government services being delivered electronically as some key driving factors behind the uptake – whilst the use of more obvious services such as email, banking and shopping online have increased with more than 10 million users taking to the web for these services.

“In 2006-07, 61 per cent of the 11.3 million people used the web to buy goods or services for private use.”
