10 billion downloads – that’s a lot of Apples!

Not bad when you consider it took iTunes nearly nine years to achieve that same milestone. So 3.3 billion downloads of Apps per year means 275 million per month or 63,461,500 per week or just over 9 million downloads per day.

Put another way, that’s like saying that 1 app was downloaded by every second person living on earth. Wow- those are figures that are almost too hard to comprehend- but yet Apple has managed to achieve this, whether we can comprehend it or not.

And yes, that also means a lot of fart apps, apps that flicker, apps that show you the closest asteroid to earth and apps that also tell you how attractive you are were downloaded but at the same time many other apps like GPS modules, banking extensions and song sorting software also came flying down the pipe.

Together with that, the fact that the iPod, iPad and the iPhone all combined to ensure that this milestone was reached so fast is testament to the fact that without a decent set of downloadable Apps, any mobile OS is doomed from the start.

Yes, read my lips- it’s all about the Apps and then the economy! This is perhaps why Android, Nokia, RIM and even Microsoft are all copying this consumer model.

However lets be serious- when you think of Apps, you think of Apple and apart from the money side of things, talk about great branding.

So lets face it, Apple just repeated its name and logo 10 billion times over the past 3 years, and that is branding that money literally as well as figuratively cannot buy- not now and not ever- but then again, I sure there is an App out there that could have told you that!
