Samsung Laptop Claims 9-Hour Battery

After an absence of a year, Samsung has decided to rejoin the competitive laptop market with a couple of energy-efficient units

Said to be designed for students and travellers alike, two new mini-notebooks from Samsung come with an extra screen resolution of 1280 x 800, with one unit claiming to have a batter life in excess of nine hours.

The NC20 and N120 mini-notebooks complete Samsung’s full range launched today including full size R610 and X460 notebooks.

“The launch of the NC20 and N120 into the Australian market represents a big step forward for Samsung’s IT offering. Together with our newly launched range of notebooks, we now offer consumers the ultimate in choice for the latest in portable computing,’ said Philip Newton, Director, Samsung Electronics, IT Division.

Together with GfK, Samsung Australia undertook local research to determine what consumers want from a notebook with longer battery life at the top of the list.

The NC20 mini-notebook offers a 12.1-inch LED wide screen and is designed to enjoy graphics with bold vibrant colours. It is also claimed to have the largest keyboard in a mini notebook.

Samsung has adopted the VIA Nano processor for the NC20 to offer a powerful performance and longer battery life. With a battery life of up to seven hours of continuous use, shopping online, surfing the web and chatting to friends on the move is now possible.
It also has an integrated 1.3-megapixel digital motion camera for internet calling like Skype, video conferencing and using live messenger applications like msn and Yahoo Messenger. The unit weighs 1.5 kilograms.

The N120 comes with two speakers and a dedicated sub-woofer, making is suitable for movies, music and video games. Like the NC20, this model also features an integrated 1.3-megapixel digital motion camera making it easy to chat with friends video conference style.

The energy-efficient SuperBright LED technology offers a screen that is 33 per cent brighter and uses less power to generate longer battery time, claims Samsung. With a battery life that lasts for up to 9.2 hours of continuous usage, or five hours of video playback, consumers can enjoy surfing the web for hours on end.

Despite its compact light-weight design, the N120 is the only 10-inch mini-notebook in its category to boast a full-sized keyboard. Optimised key spacing and a larger touchpad not only makes typing fast and easy but also ensures less strain on wrists.
