One of the most interesting new features of the Xbox One is the updated Kinect motion sensor that is said to be able to track the user better than the previous generation. Today, Xbox Fitness which is a new service from Microsoft designed to utilise the capabilities of the Kinect was launched.
The service takes videos from various fitness trainers to give an instant, personalised feedback based on a gamer’s workout. Xbox Fitness will generate the feedback based on the gamer’s heart rate, which will be collected by tracking several factors including: which muscles are most engaged, measuring the power, force and transfer of weight in body, balance, tempo and form.
The service has fitness programs between 10 and 60 minutes the results of which will be used to generate program recommendations for each user. Moreover, Xbox Fitness will also show what the most popular workouts are for other users of the service. Users will also be able to use their performance stats to challenge friends or compare them with other users.
Xbox Fitness will initially be available to all users until December 2014 – with Xbox Live Gold, but after that, there’s a big chance that Microsoft will put a price tag to it.
