Ubisoft’s Fighters Uncaged is a game released for Kinect, Xbox 360’s new motion sensor platform. Fighting games have historically been popular and this version chooses street fighting as the arena.

In the game you play as Simon, who has to win an illegal tournament to get his father out of trouble with a serious dude.

With Kinect you are the controller, so you’re free to do short and long punches, headbutts and kicks, as well as evasive blocks and dodges.

All these moves are learnt in a very thorough tutorial at the start of the game. Once you’ve completed the tutorial, you start off in League Three, as you progress through the leagues, you’ll come up against increasingly tough opponents.

Progressing through the game is not easy – you not only need to win, you need to win well – crowns are awarded based on how many points you get in a fight, and will take into account your health, and how long you took to beat your opponent.

Fighters Uncaged is the first attempt at a fighting game for the Kinect platform. It takes a while to learn to coordinate the moves with the sensor, and to work out a strategy which involves more than just jumping in and swinging.

Fighters Uncaged is available now.
