Samsung is trying to extend the appeal of its line of interchangeable lens cameras as it announced the NX Mini, which the company dubs as the world’s thinnest and lightest compact camera system.

The NX Mini boasts a 1-inch 20.5MP BSI CMOS sensor, Wi-Fi, NFC and a 3-inch HVGA flip-up touchscreen. The camera’s shutter speed tops at 1/16000, ISO goes to a maximum of 25600 and burst mode makes the camera take 6 shots per second. The camera is also capable of capturing 1080/30p videos and 650 still shots on a single charge.

The smaller form factor of the camera required Samsung to change the mount of the lens, which means there will be new lenses that will come with the Mini. At present, there are two lenses available for the NX Mini. The first would be a 9mm f/3.5 pancake lens while the second will be a 9-27mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens.

Samsung also said that a 17mm f/1.8 lens is in the pipeline. The Samsung NX Mini will be available sometime in April for $450 with the zoom lens in different colours including black, white, brown, green and pink.
