NSW students to get netbooks   01 Dec 2008

NSW students to get netbooksThe increased funding for the computers in schools initiative means that by mid 2009 all high school students will get a mini laptop or a netbook.

Originally opposing the plan, NSW Education Minister Verity Firth says the new funding means the State Government can roll out the laptops by the middle of next year.

"I imagine at the end of the day there will be funding from us, that's inevitable, but this funding is enough for us to confidently say we can now deliver this."

Students will be allowed to keep the laptops when they leave high school. Each laptop will be security encoded with an ID for each student, and will have internet access through wireless networks installed in every state high school.
