Electronic Arts made an announcement today that it will be retiring several of its Sims Facebook games which include Sim City Social, Sims Social and Pet Society starting June 14, 2013.

According to a statement made by EA on a blog post today, the company made the decision to shut down the games in order to reallocate servers and resources to more popular titles. Furthermore, EA explained that although there were millions of people who initially logged in to play these games, the number of players and the amount of activity has fallen off.

The company has had a rough couple of months in terms of its financial position as well as problems with product delivery specifically in the recently launched SimCity. This has caused the company to lay off a number of employees, its CEO resigning from his position and being voted by the Consumerist as the worst company in America for the second year in a row.

EA has advised players who still have balances of in-game currency to try and spend it before the games shut down in June 14. Moreover the company will also be giving players a special offer on a PopCap game the details of which are yet to be disclosed.
