Privacy is now a major issue in the tech world, especially at a time where the US Government has reportedly been snooping around on people’s personal emails, calls and text messages. And if you’re that type of person that values security more than anything else, this new smartphone might be for you.

The Blackphone is an upcoming smartphone that puts security ahead of anything else, giving users full control of their device and their privacy. The smartphone will be powered by a security-oriented operating system called PrivatOS that is based on Android, which will allow its users to receive phone calls, exchange texts, transfer and store files without compromising security.

This smartphone was developed by Silent Circle in association with Geeksphone – a start-up from Spain that produces smartphones that run on various OS including Android and Firefox OS.

There is not much information when it comes to the specs department but according to its manufacturer, the Blackphone should be able to compete with the top models from any smartphone manufacturer in terms of performance benchmarks.

The Blackphone will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona. Pre-orders for the phone will also start at MWC right after its presentation.
