According to well-known Russian Windows leaker WZor, Microsoft may begin talking about Windows 9 next during the 2014 Worldwide Partner Conference 2014. Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference is a four-day event celebrating the achievements of the software giant's global partners, and features a number of presentations from both Microsoft and third parties.

The leak published by WZor reaffirms current rumours that suggest an aggressive push designed to win back users sceptical of the touch-centric Windows 8. WZor suggests that a Windows 9 launch would be supported by a huge advertising campaign focusing on the return of the Start Button and Start Menu.

WZor's usage of the term "rent" is notable, and could suggest that Microsoft aim to transition Windows to a subscription service as with Office 365.

It is expected that Microsoft will also use the conference to introduce Windows 8.1 Update 2.
