Microsoft Corp has launched an Xbox Live update that will give Australians access to the first group of new, custom applications from TV and entertainment providers. The update will also enable voice control via Kinect for Xbox 360 for Australian residents.

Adding to the existing TV content with Foxtel on Xbox 360 will be ABC iView, SBS On Demand, YouTube, Daily Motion and Crackle; all available on Xbox Live this month December.

Xbox has also partnered with ninemsn to provide the latest video content from Nine News, Today, Wide World of Sports and CelebrityFIX TV on Xbox LIVE.

“Xbox is different – not only with a new look but great new content and voice control as of tomorrow. We are unique in the market and plan to stay that way,” said David McLean, Director, Consumer Channels Group, Microsoft Australia. “When Australians download the Xbox Live update, their Xbox 360 will feel completely new – it will feel like the Xbox was redesigned for a new era in entertainment.”

Also launching is the ability to search, navigate and interact with the Xbox in new ways, including Bing text search and a new Windows Phone application called Xbox Companion App. Available via Marketplace, the Companion App will enable people to find, research and control their Xbox content from their phones.
