Vodafone has fired a shot across the bow of Telstra and Optus in their push to sign up new customers this Christmas.

CyberShack.com has heard that in a promotion to be announced shortly, new customers signing up to selected Vodafone plans between tomorrow and early January 2014 will have their monthly data allowance doubled for the period of their agreement.

The offer will relate to new customers who are both purchasing a new phone and plan through Vodafone, and new customers who are bringing their own handset to the network. This offer will also give customers access to the Vodafone 4G network, however now with twice the monthly allowance of selected plans already available.

With 4G data speeds increasing the amount of online activity carried out by Australian smart phone users, extra data is always appreciated, and no doubt will be valued by customers.

CyberShack.com also understands that the new offer will mean plans like the Red $85 sim only plan that currently offers 5GB a month, will double to 10GB a month if the customer takes up the offer during the promotion period. This is a strong offer for heavy downloaders, and will be of even better value to customers using their devices within the Vodafone 4G foot print.

With Christmas being a key selling time for Phones in the Australian market, the pressure has been raised on the likes of Telstra and Optus to respond with a value offer of their own.

A press announcement is expected to be released shortly with more details about the offer.
