Twitter’s music app has barely kept up with competition such as Spotify and Rdio. And this week, the company has admitted defeat and announced that it will soon close Twitter #Music by next month.

At the moment, the Twitter Music app has already been pulled out of the Apple App store while the promised Android app never really materialised. Meanwhile, the web-based music service has already stopped streaming activities and now redirects to iTunes Radio and Vine. App development has also halted a few months ago and Twitter has already set April 18 as the final date that the service will be available.

The service was initially released on the iPhone and iPad and focused on introducing new tracks to consumers through trending playlists. However, it failed to get traction since users can only listen to one track at a time and were unable to explore further an artist’s catalogue.
