Sony’s much awaited PlayStation 4 has finally reached Australian shores today with an RRP of $549.95.

It’s been nearly seven years since Sony has updated its console, so it was to be expected that fans were really anticipating this release. In fact according to Sony Computer Entertainment Australia’s Michael Ephraim, the demand for the console is so high that their retail partners are telling them that their stocks may soon run out by the time Christmas comes.

The new PlayStation 4 brings in to the table a noticeable improvement both in hardware and software. For starters, the PS4 is powered by an enhanced GPU and 8GB of GDDR5 unified system memory for improved graphics. The PS4’s controller has also been optimised to provide the best gaming experience to consumers. Moreover, Sony has incorporated a number of new technologies to this gaming console, especially those found in the mobile industry for a more unified entertainment system.

The PS4 integrates second screens, including those on the PS Vita, Smartphones and tablets. There’s actually a PlayStation App for iOS and Android that allow devices running these platforms to become second screens for the PS4.
