Samsung has just announced its latest solid state drive that is designed to put more power into today’s thin form factor Ultrabooks.

Typically, solid state drives max out at 250GB and only larger 2.5-inch SSDs would be able to provide more space. But with Samsung’s new EVO SSDs, the storage capacity has been expanded up to 1TB whilst maintaining the small foot print. The new SSD tips the scales at 8.5 grams and measures only 3.85 millimetres. According to Samsung, the read speed clocks in at 540Mbps, while write speeds are at 520Mbps.

Essentially, this means that future generations of Ultrabooks will have more storage capacity without compromising on dimensions. There’s no pricing information yet, but Samsung will be offering the 840 EVO mSATA in different capacities including 120, 250 and 500GB versions.
