Following months of leaks, rumours and speculation, Samsung today announced the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The Galaxy Alpha’s official specifications include a 4.7-inch 720p screen, 12 megapixel camera and 1,860mAh battery. The processor will be either aquad-core Snapdragon 801 or octa-core Exynos 5; this will vary from market to market and it is currently unclear which of the two will appear in the Australian variant.

While the Galaxy Alpha shares a number of design elements with Samsung’s flagship, the Galaxy S5, the new handset has been slimmed down to just 6.7mm. Aside from the iPhone-inspired chamfered edges, the Galaxy Alpha takes a couple of other cues from Apple’s flagship: its storage isn’t expandable via microSD and it will use a nano SIM rather than micro SIM.
