Samsung recently announced an update to its popular dual-SIM Android phablet – the Galaxy Grand 2.

The phablet is built around a 5.25-inch display with a 720p resolution, which is an upgrade from the WVGA resolution of the original Galaxy Grand. The Grand 2 also now has a quad-core processor 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded through a microSD card slot.

The battery has also been improved which is now rated at 2600mAh. Moreover, the device runs a more up-to-date version of Android – version 4.3 Jelly Bean (no word yet if it’s upgradable to Android KitKat). Other than that, the Grand 2 packs relatively similar internals as its predecessor.

The smartphone boasts similar design elements with the company’s current flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 3. For starters, the Grand 2 now features the same faux leather back cover with stitching pattern as that of the Note 3.

There’s no word yet on when exactly will the phone be launched but we expect it to be available either before the end of the year or during the first quarter of 2014, probably at the same price range as the original Grand phablet.
