Sony’s PS Vita is now getting a system update to prepare it for the upcoming PlayStation 4 that will be released later this month.

The update mainly brings the PS4 link functionality to the portable gaming console. This means that the PS Vita will be able to link to the PS4 for Remote Play and second screen purposes via Wi-Fi.

Secondary changes brought about by the update include added parental controls and a panoramic photo setting to the PS Vita options. There’s also an improved Friends app that will go in line with the PS4’s expanded friends list.

Other apps that will come with the update include Group Messaging and Party apps which now features new icons and gained new functions such as voice and text chat, and the ability to send messages to users with the PlayStation app installed on their smartphones. The update will also now allow the PS Vita to connect to PS3 consoles thanks to the Content Manager app that now works over Wi-Fi.

Finally, the PS Vita will now be able to view PS4 trophies and at the same time have an automatic update option.
