Optus boosts data allowances, introduces Family Sharing

Optus today announced Family Sharing, a new offer that allows families to pool data across several different plans. From today, customers who sign up to a new plan on Optus will have their data allocation combined with the data of other users on the same bill.

There is no limit to the number of mobile phone plans that can be included on Family Sharing, and customers can connect up to five devices per plan. A one off fee of AUD$5 is charged for each additional device added.

In conjunction with the offer, Optus has increased data caps across its post-paid contracts. Optus's new plans are as follows:

The AUD$60 My Plan Plus now includes 3GB of data, unlimited national calls and text.
The AUD$80 My Plan Plus now includes 6GB of data, unlimited national calls and text.
The AUD$100 My Plan Plus now includes 10GB of data, unlimited national calls and text.

Optus' data cap increase follows last week's Telstra announcement, where the telco said it would up data inclusions across all of its post-paid plans from April 9.

Vodafone is also following suite, offering up to 5GB of bonus data to customers purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge on a contract through its web store, but has not confirmed whether this will become a standard inclusion across its plans.
