Nikon today announced two new cameras that are meant for the sub-professional market and will be replacing last year’s models – the CoolPix P340 and the S9700.

The CoolPix P340 will be replacing 2013’s P330 and as such packs almost the same specs as its predecessor. For starters, it still has the same 1/1.7-inch 12MP BSI CMOS sensor as well as the same price tag as the P330. But unlike last year’s model, this one has Wi-Fi connectivity and an optically stabilised zoom lens.

The camera also has a 3-inch VGA RGBW LCD screen, full manual controls (with dedicated mode dial) and is capable of capturing 1080/30p videos.

The S9700 on the other hand will take over the S9500 from last yuear. It also has integrated Wi-Fi and GPS, a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, an f/3.7-6.4 (25-750mm) optical zoom lens, a 3-inch VGA OLED panel at the back and 1080p video capture.

It also offers manual controls to users including a dedicated mode dial as well as a hybrid VR image stabilisation for reduced blur in images and in videos.

The Nikon CoolPix P340 will be available starting March for around US$380 while the S9700 will retail for US$350 and will start shipping this month.
