Nikon just announced the newest member of its 1 series of mirrorless cameras – the Nikon 1 V3.

The camera has upgraded specs including an 18.4MP CMOS sensor with no low-pass filter and a new EXPEED 4A image processing engine. The V3 also has one of the fastest autofocus systems in the realm of mirrorless cameras thanks to its 105 (using phase-detection) to 171 (using contrast-detection) focus points.

Nikon also claims that the V3 is the world’s fastest mirrorless camera in terms of high-speed continuous shooting with AF tracking at 20 frames per second (up to 60fps when focus is locked). The camera is also equipped with a vari-angle LCD monitor that gives users flexibility when shooting.

Unlike its predecessors, the new V3 now packs a 3-inch touch screen LCD unit at the back, built-in Wi-Fi and a new user interface that is based on the company’s line of DSLRs. The Nikon 1 V3 will be available next month for US$1200 with a 10-30mm kit lens, viewfinder and grip. There’s also an optional 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom lens worth US$1000 for those who want more zooming power.
