Rumours are spreading that the next version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system may just be around the corner. According to reports, the next release will most likely arrive by March 2015 and will unify all of the company’s operating systems.

The update is currently codenamed as Threshold, which coincidentally also comes from the Halo game franchise just like the term Cortana that was previously rumoured to be the codename for Microsoft’s personal assistant app for Windows Phone.

Threshold is expected to bring an even more commonality among the company’s operating systems. These include a unified app store as well as improved tool sets that will encourage developers to create applications for Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox systems.
