Apple's supplier have started manufacturing new iPad models, according to a report published by Bloomberg. New versions of both the 9.7-inch iPad Air and 7.9-inch iPad mini are expected to be available by the end of the year.
The publication noted that number of larger iPads initially available may be restricted by manufacturing complications related to the use of a new anti-reflection coating. This coating is designed to make the device's screen easier to read.
Apple's quarterly earnings report revealed that iPad sales dropped for the second quarter in a row, down 9.2% from the previous year. The iPad's falling sales have been called responsible for the 7% fall in local retailer JB Hi-Fi's share price. JB Hi-Fi's chief executive Richard Murray noted that consumers are holding onto their tablets for longer, despite the constant iteration in the sector. Murray said the first half the 2015 financial year will be affected by the drop in tablet sales.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the company isn't worried about declining tablet sales, and that Apple is planning to bring "significant innovation" to the iPad in the future.
