Meet Ollie, the newest addition to the Sphero family

Orbotix today announced the latest addition to the Sphero family: Ollie, a cylindrical robot described as the "love-child of Tony Hawk and Need for Speed". Eschewing Sphero's spherical design, Ollie has rugged treads wrapping each end, effectively giving it wheels. These give the speedy little robot the ability to hoon around at 22 kilometres per hour.

As with Sphero, Ollie is controlled via Bluetooth, using iOS and Android devices. Ollie is able to travel 30 metres from the controlling phone or tablet, and has 60 minutes of battery life. As suggested by Ollie's name, the robot can perform several tricks including flips, drifts and spins.

Ollie will be available in Australia by November from Harvey Norman, Myer, Apple and Dicksmith, and will retail for $149.95.

We should have a review of Ollie in the next couple of weeks – and to be honest, we're a little too excited.
