Apple is undoubtedly one of them most important brands of the past decade. Since 2007, the company has churned out hit products one after another and introduced numerous innovations that have disrupted the consumer electronics market. However, ever since Steve Jobs’ untimely passing, many have argued that the company’s flame is now slowly fluttering in the face of competition.

And if we look at recent market research reports, it looks like the odds are not in favour of Apple. According to the report by Millward Brown the company has slipped out of the top spot in the list of the 10 most valuable global brands of 2014 – a position it has kept for the last three years.

Apple’s drop is said to have been caused by the lack of innovations and dramatic product launches. On the contrary, its rivals are doing the opposite and have consequently improved their rankings this year. For instance, Google’s push for new innovations including the development of Google Glass and various investments in different fields of technology has allowed the search giant to surpass Apple and take the top spot.

Microsoft and Amazon have also climbed a few places which are now on the fourth and tenth spots respectively.

Moreover, sales of its iPad tablet have slowed down recently. According to the company’s Q2 2014 financial report, Apple has sold 3.6 million iPad units less than the same quarter of 2013. Also, sales of their Mac devices (although still growing despite the contraction of the PC market) has now been eclipsed by Chinese electronic giant Lenovo according to data collected by the IDC for the past three months.

Nonetheless, Apple remains one of the most preferred brands in the market today. But if it wants to keep its reach and influence in the tech space, it better deliver and innovate to stay on top.
