Huawei has just announced the much-awaited update to its 2013 phablet with the Ascend Mate 2 4G.

As the name implies, the handset features 4G LTE (Cat 4 LTE to be exact), which gives users up to 150Mbps downlink. The Mate 2 4G also comes with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor on a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.

There’s 2GB of RAM on the device, a 13MP camera at the back with f/2.0 aperture, a 28mm lens and Sony sensor. The camera at the front is a 5MP f/2.4 snapper with 1.4µm pixels. The display size and resolution of the phablet the same as its predecessor at 6.1 inches and 720p respectively.

In terms of storage, Huawei has added an extra 8GB of memory compared to the original Ascend Mate; and users who still need more space can still add extra storage via a microSD card.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G will run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with the company’s Emotion UI 2.0 on top and will be powered by a 4050mAh battery, which surprisingly features reverse charging to allow users to charge their other devices. There’s no word on pricing and shipping date yet but we’ll update everyone as soon as more details come in.
