Google has just signed a deal with Italian eyewear manufacturer Luxottica – the company behind Ray-Ban and Oakley, to help give its Glass wearable a boost in terms of getting commercial traction.

The partnership should help both companies to design, develop and distribute the Glass eyewear. In terms of design, Luxottica’s expertise should help Google give Glass a high-fashion look that should appeal to fashion-conscious consumers. Moreover, the Italian company’s extensive network of retail stores and vast distribution channels should help Google get its wearable to a much broader audience.

On the other hand, the partnership should allow Luxottica to equip their products with innovative features that consumers are currently looking for these days.

There’s no word yet on when a Ray-Ban or Oakley branded Google Glass will be released to the public, but nonetheless, this is a very delightful news for fans of wearable technology especially those who aren’t comfortable with people looking at their awkward headgear when in public.
