The race to get the most productive apps on mobile is now on as Google announced the prime competitor of Microsoft’s Office for iPad – Google Docs and Sheets for mobile phones and tablets.

The two apps will be standalone applications that will allow users to find, create and edit documents and spreadsheets on smartphone and tablets running either on Android or iOS. The apps also provide offline support both for viewing and editing of files which should make anyone productive even when not connected to the internet.

Google has also made it easy for users to find recently edited files, which should reduce if not eliminate scroll and search times when a quick edit is to be done by the user.

As for presentations, Google said that they will bring the standalone Slides app soon so those who are planning to shift from Microsoft’s PowerPoint would have to wait a bit longer. Otherwise, both Docs and Sheets are now available on Google Play and on Apple’s App Store for free.
