Google announces Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet

Google also announced the Nexus Player, the first device to run Android TV. Android TV is an Android variant specifically designed to run on televisions that allows users to stream music, movies and TV shows, use certain Android apps, including games, and mimic Chromecast's functionality.

The Asus-designed Nexus Player has 8GB of internal storage and 802.11acWi-Fi for wireless streaming.

Google will sell the Nexus Player for USD$99, and a game controller will be available for USD$49. The pair will be available to purchase from the Google Play Store alongside the Nexus 9 on October 17.
