Garmin is a brand that is usually associated with navigation and GPS technology. But this week at CES, the company has announced a new product that tracks a different type of data – your health.

Garmin’s newest creation the Vivofit is a lightweight fitness band that tracks a number of user data and acts as a fitness trainer to keep the user healthy. The Vivofit features an always on curved display that shows steps, goal countdown, calories, distance and time of day. The device also learns users’ current activity level and then assigns an attainable daily goal.

Once a user achieves his goal for the day, the Vivofit will automatically adjust the goal for the next day, gradually improving the user’s health and lifestyle. The device can also connect to Garmin Connect and track their progress or join a free online fitness community where users can join or start fitness competitions and earn virtual badges.

According to Garmin, the Vivofit’s replaceable batteries can last over one year. Moreover, the device is water-resistant up to 50m and is compatible with ANT+ heart rate monitors for fitness activities.

The Vivofit will be available in 5 different colours: black, purple, teal, blue and slate and will start shipping by Q2 2014.
