Foxtel iQ3 is now available for AUD$150

Foxtel subscribers are today able to order the company's latest set-top box, the eagerly anticipated iQ3, for AUD $125. On top of this, customers are also required to pay either AUD$25 for a self-installation kit or AUD$75 for installation by a Foxtel technician. Current customers can upgrade via the My Account portal, while new customers can request an iQ3 as part of their subscription when they sign-up for their service. Foxtel will continue to sell the iQHD, the iQ3's predecessor, for users who may want a second PVR.

Foxtel describes its new set-top box as the "easiest, smartest and sexiest way to be entertained," with a focus on convergence between online TV, live TV, free-to-air, video-on-demand and recorded content.

"iQ3 brings it all together," said Rohan Lund, Foxtel's chief operating officer. "[It's] ahead of where it needs to be today."

The iQ3 was designed with two goals in mind: discovery and control. The pay TV provider says that its new set-top box will make it easier for its subscribers to find new content to watch and love, and make it easier to watch it when it suits them.

A complete visual overhaul is at the cornerstone of this initiative. In addition to a clean new look, reminiscent of Windows 8's tiled interface, Foxtel has implemented a centralised "home" menu. In addition to being one of the few new buttons on the remote, the home menu provides a hub that blends programmes that are currently airing live, video-on-demand titles, titles a user has recorded and titles available for purchase from Foxtel's various services. This "Suggestions" menu will only show content available on a user's subscription, and will not attempt to upsell.
