Newsreader app Flipboard has enjoyed tremendous success since its launch thanks to its highly intuitive interface and simple yet striking design. Today, Facebook has announced that it will soon release its own news reader app called Paper.

With paper, users will be able to view content from various sources (including their own Facebook news feed) in a magazine-like fashion. Facebook has also curated several themes that will include content about photography, sports, food, science and design for users to choose from.

The content should be a mix of “marketing” materials from big companies and sites as well as content from “emerging voices” so as not to limit the types of content to only media giants.

Just like Flipboard, navigation is done through swipe gestures. Facebook has also added motion-based navigation controls in the form of tilting when panning large panoramic pictures

Facebook is set to launch the app initially on iOS on February 3. There’s no word yet if and when will Facebook announce an Android version.
