Facebook has finally announced that it will pull the chat feature off of its mobile app in the coming days in order to bring a more focused chat experience to users through a dedicated chat app.

With the feature to be officially removed from the main app, users will need to download the company’s standalone chat app in order to talk to their friends in real time. However, users with low-memory devices won’t be required to download Facebook chat. Also, Windows Phone and tablet users will also still be able to see messages inside their Facebook apps.

Those using Facebook Paper won’t be affected by this new rule. However, the rule may present itself in future versions of the app.

On the plus side, the chat functionality’s departure from Facebook’s main app should allow the company to add more features into its standalone messaging app and at the same time lessen the footprint of the main FB app on a device.
