D-Link surprises with easy-to-use Wi-Fi HD camera

D-Link's sleek new Wi-Fi camera, the Omna 180 Cam HD is not only compatible with Apple's HomeKit, it is also a networkable security camera that can stream encrypted 1080p video to devices such as iPhones and Apple TV, writes Milo Boyd.

The Omna 180 Cam HD has a wide and crystal clear 180-degree field of view, and even has night vision using infrared technology to see up to 5m away – perfect for any room in most residences.

Having said that, the setup of the camera is so easy that a 12-year old can do it- literally, as I actually used my 12-year old to set up the camera for me. Once I downloaded the App on my iPhone 6, we were quite literally cooking with gas.

But apart from that, the Omna 180 Cam HD is also designed store movie clips onto a 128 Gb microSDXC card, which means you may not need to subscribe to a cloud storage service just yet.

With a built-in microphone and speaker that allows for two-way communication between the homeowner and anyone on the video feed, video and audio can be easily streamed for viewing from an iPhone, MacBook or iPad.

The Omna 180 Cam HD has a motion detection system that kicks in whenever something moves in front of the lens, together with a photograph.

To be honest, the image quality is great and the sound quality while not Dolby quality is both clear and audible – this is perhaps the best camera of its type I've used to date.

The Omna 180 Cam HD is designed to also work with other HomeKit devices also through the Home app, prompting actions on other devices once movement is detected by the camera.

In other words, if you are looking for a well priced, easy-to-use and setup security camera that you can use just about anywhere, then look no further than the Omna 180 Cam HD.
