CES 2016: Huawei Mate 8 boasts a big screen and big battery, Australia-bound this year

Australia is set to be one of the first markets for Huawei's Mate 8 phablet when it launches in the first quarter of this year. While the handset was first unveiled at the tail-end of last year, the Chinese manufacturer spent much of its CES press conference delving into the nitty gritty details.

President of Huawei's consumer handset business, Kevin Ho, described the device as a phone that's both big on size, and big on battery. With regular usage, Ho said the Mate 8 will last 2.36 days. Heavy usage is said to take this down to 1.65. Notably, the Mate 8 supports quick charging; half an hour of juicing should provide a full day of "normal" usage.
