LG has announced that the LG Optimus Me smartphone will be available through mass retailers and select mobile phone resellers as an ‘unlocked’ outright handset.

The Android-powered handset is aimed at people looking to buy their first smartphone, and will be sold through a variety of sales channels including mass retailers such as Woolworths Supermarkets and Dick Smith Electronics, as well as mobile phone dealers such as Allphones and Telechoice.

It uses a 2.8-inch capacitive touch screen, incorporates the Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System from Google, which makes web browsing simple and smooth, and comes with social network services.

It allows users to stamp their own identity on their phone, with the customisable home screens, a range of Apps available from the Android Market, and the ability to access their favourite Google Mobile Services. It will also come with a 600MHz CPU, 2GB memory, microSD expandable memory and a 1280mAh battery.
