Vodafone's "free data weekend" proved that Australians still love the word free; Vodafone customers used twice as much data nationally compared to the previous weekend. The total data used during the weekend was approximately 600 terabytes, or 600,000 gigabytes.

Whirlpool Forum user Brat81 made the most of the event, downloading a total of 633 gigabytes. This is approximately a third of the 1.8 terabytes it would have been theoretically possible to download.

A Vodafone spokesperson said: “We knew customers would love a free weekend of data, but the network downloads have surpassed even our expectations. We’re the first mobile provider in Australia to offer a free data weekend to its entire customer base – this was like a New Year’s Eve at midnight demand that lasted all weekend. We’re delighted with how the network performed."

Customers in New South Wales were the biggest users of data, followed by Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.
