Aussies win Gold and third overall in WCG finals

The 2010 World Cyber Games (WCG) wrapped up yesterday with a Grand Final that proved to be one of the organization's most-watched events to date.

After a hard fought Finals tournament, South Korea took home first overall place with 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Brazil, United Kingdom and Germany were tied second with 1 gold and 1 silver each and Australia, Ukraine, Sweden and the United States were tied third with 1 gold medal each.

And 16-year-old Australian high school student Charlie Elliott, who is in year 10 at Kingsgrove High School in Sydney, won a gold medal and $US7000 playing the mobile racing game Asphalt 5 on a Samsung Galaxy S mobile.

Overall some 450 players from 58 countries battled it out for three days and more than $250,000 in cash and prizes was won during the event.
