LG and Samsung have already started offering curved OLED TVs and smartphones in the market. However, curved displays have remained pretty much undeveloped outside the realm of these two products. Fortunately, there have been manufacturers who are trying to port the technology to other devices.

Asus is one such company that was able to apply the technology of curved displays into one of its prototype monitors. The 32-inch display offers WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and packs VA (virtual alignment) technology that combines the best features of TN and IPS panels to offer wide viewing angles and accurate colours.

The monitor only has a slight curve compared to the Koreans’ curved TVs, which according to Asus was an intentional move as they are still experimenting on the amount of curvature to obtain the best image quality and to avoid any image warping. Asus has also added a coat of glare-deflecting material to the monitor’s display that gives it a matte finish.

As the monitor is still in its prototype stage, Asus wasn’t able to provide information on the devices ETA but they did mention that it will likely cost more than US$800.
