Archos Announces Two Phablets, A Smartphone And A Tablet

The Mobile World Congress stage is a very tight place to get into especially if you’re facing the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony and Nokia. So what are you going to do if you’re only a small company? Simple, you get ahead of the big announcements and release your products earlier. And Archos did just that by announcing its quartet of new Android-powered products today (February 23 in Barcelona).

Heading the bunch is a tablet called the 80 Helium 4G. The tablet features an 8.0-inch screen, LTE connectivity, a screen resolution of 1024×768 pixels, 8GB of on-board storage with option for expansion via a microSD card, a 5MP camera capable of capturing full HD video and a 3500mAh battery.

Next in line are Archos’s phablets – the 50c Oxygen and the 64 Xenon. The 50c Oxygen gets a 5.0-inch 720p IPS display, a 1.7GHz octa-core chipset, Mali-450 graphics, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory (expandable), a 13MP+8MP camera combo, dual-SIM card slots, HSPA connectivity and Bluetooth v4.0.

The 64 Xenon on the other hand has a bigger 6.4-inch display that offers 720p resolution. Italso comes with a MediaTek quad-core chipset just like the Oxygen as well as a Mali-400 graphics card. The camera on the back of the device is an 8MP snapper and is capable of capturing 1080p content. There’s also a 2800mAh battery and the same 4GB of internal memory as the smaller Oxygen.

Lastly, Archos is introducing the 40b Titanium – the quartet’s baby which features a 4.0-inch display, 3G HSPA connectivity, a 5MP rear camera, dual front-facing speakers, 512MB of RAM and a smaller battery rated at 1400-1500mAh.

Archos hasn’t mentioned anything yet about when it plans to ship these devices but they did indicate their shipping price, with the Helium tablet to be offered at GBP230, while the Oxygen (and Xenon) and Titanium to be offered at GBP200 and GBP99 respectively.
