After 33 years in the market, Acer leapfrogs Dell in PC sales…HP still number one

Taiwan-based PC manufacturer Acer has just become the world number two in PC sales in the third quarter with a rise of 2.3 percent year-over-year sales, according research companies Gartner and IDC.

According to Gartner, HP retained its 19.9 percent lead of the marketshare, with 9 percent growth. Acer has 15.4 percent of share, with a more than reasonable 23.6 percent growth, while Dell dropped to 12.8 percent share with a 6.7 percent loss.

The top five was rounded out with Lenovo with 8.5 percent share and 15.8 percent growth, and Toshiba has a 5.0 percent market share and 10.8 percent growth.

IDC figures were pretty similar, with the sales order the same as Gartner’s. Gartner also says that while the Japanese market has shrunk as expected (down 15.1 percent), the growth in China has been phenomenal with a massive 28.5 percent increase.
