The four main games in Mario Sports Mix are ice hockey, basketball, volleyball and dodgeball. Although he’s played some basketball and had some sporting cameos, this is the first time he’s been presented with a number of games, hence the title.

First up, is ice hockey. The game uses the Wii remote on its side or the remote and nunchuk together. The Mario Mix version of ice hockey seems pretty easy to pick up.

Basketball doesn’t quite take on the tenets of the NBA franchise, but word on the street is that Bowser is the Shaq O’Neill of the court.

Then there is volleyball. As well as the actual sport, there are some classic Mario features such as picking up shells, which gives you extra energy.

Throughout the games Mario is joined by Luigi, Bowser and Bowser Jr, Princess Peach and Princess Daisy, Yoshi and Toad, and Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong – each has a specific skill set for the games, and a signature move that can’t be stopped.

Mario sports mix is out on February 7.
